Description
« If it hears festive music, it begins moving in rhythm in order to amplify its power. »

Ludicolo is a Water / Grass-type Pokémon, No. 272 in the National Pokédex, introduced in Generation 3 (Hoenn region).

Its story

Appearance

A bipedal plant Pokémon, part pineapple and part duck. A green sombrero-like growth covers its head, its bill is orange, and shaggy yellow fur with brown zigzags covers its body.

Lifestyle

Festive music makes it more powerful and sets it dancing without fear. It evolves from Lombre by stone: rarely wild, but seen near the water's edge.

In the anime

Brock's Lombre becomes Ludicolo with Samantha's Water Stone. Poncho's Ludicolo beats Ash's Corphish, and another helps pull a Marshtomp from the mud.

Name origin

It suggests a lily pad, a hairy kappa, and a Mexican dancer in a sombrero. Ludicolo may blend ludic, ridiculous, colocynth, and a play on loco, "crazy".

Did you know?

  • The brown zigzags on its fur are thinner on the female.
  • It shows up near laughing children on hikes.
  • Its Japanese name Runpappa blends bouncy cheer with kappa.
